New Hyundai Venue due in 2025 – report

The next generation of Hyundai’s smallest SUV in Australia may be two years away, as the South Korean automaker commits to compact, budget-priced cars – even if only as an SUV.

The next generation of the Hyundai Venue city SUV is due in overseas showrooms in 2025, according to a new report from Indian publication Autocar India.

Hyundai has reportedly locked in a successor to what is currently its smallest SUV in Australia following its popularity in India, where more than 450,000 have been sold since 2019, according to Autocar India.

The Indian publication reports production of the next Venue is due to commence at Hyundai’s new Talegaon factory in India – purchased from General Motors – in 2025.

It is yet to be confirmed if and when the new Venue will come to Australia, and it is unclear if production will continue in South Korea – where Australian models are currently produced – or if it will move elsewhere.

It has been a relative sales success in Australia – where the Venue has indirectly succeeded the Accent as Hyundai’s entry-level car – about 21,000 examples been reported as sold between its launch in late 2019 and the end of July 2023.

Last year it was the fourth-best seller in the Hyundai line-up with 6440 reported deliveries, behind the i30 hatch and sedan (21,166 sales), Tucson mid-size SUV (17,870) and Kona small SUV (11,538).

The current Hyundai Venue is priced from $22,000 to $28,750 plus on-road costs. Some variants are more than $3000 dearer than they were at launch in 2019, due to new features added over that time, and higher manufacturing costs.

The Hyundai Venue sold in Australia, South Korea and the US is different to the Indian-built version, and missed out on a Palisade-inspired facelift introduced last year for the Indian model.

The Indian-made Venue sits on a shorter floorpan and wears lower-profile bumpers to unlock lower tax rates for cars less than four metres long in India – and it is likely built to less stringent crash safety standards than the Australian version.

There are also different engines, with the Indian model offering the option of a 1.0-litre turbo three-cylinder petrol engine, compared to the 1.6-litre non-turbo petrol four-cylinder in Australian examples.

The young Canadian driver was caught by police at 186km/h in a 60km/h zone in his father’s new Corvette sports car. A 23-year old man has had his father’s Chevrolet Corvette impounded after being caught at more than three times over the speed limit in Ontario, Canada. According to a post on social media by the Peel Regional Police, the Corvette was detected travelling at 186km/h in a 60km/h zone. Police have detected more than 100 distracted drivers – including 86 using their mobile phone – during a recent two-day road blitz. Victoria Police detected close to 90 motorists using their mobile phones while driving in a two-day operation in Melbourne. Honda confirms NSX successor in the works

Honda boss has again confirmed the car maker is working on an electric sports car which may see the hallowed NSX badge return to showrooms. A successor to the Honda NSX supercar is coming, after Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe once again confirmed the car maker is working on a new halo electric sports car. Heavy SUVs and electric cars pose “safety concern”, says European crash tester

Euro NCAP – the European counterpart of local crash-test body ANCAP – has expressed concern about the growing weight of vehicles, including SUVs and electric cars.
