2023 GWM Tank 300 petrol price confirmed for Australia – UPDATE

A petrol-only, non-hybrid version of the new GWM Tank 300 four-wheel-drive from China has joined the range,

A petrol version of the new 2023 GWM Tank 300 hybrid off-roader has been added to the range, priced from $46,990 drive-away.

The Tank 300 – a Jeep Wrangler-styled four-wheel-drive from Chinese marque Great Wall Motors (GWM) – was until now available in a choice of two grades, sharing a 225kW 2.0-litre turbo petrol-electric hybrid system.

GWM has now introduced a petrol-only version, powered by a 162kW and 380Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine.

It costs $9000 to $10,000 less than the hybrid version, at $46,990 drive-away for the Lux petrol, and $50,990 drive-away for the Ultra petrol – compared to $55,990 and $60,990 drive-away for equivalent hybrid versions.

Standard equipment levels are unchanged from the hybrid. A list is at the bottom of this story.

The petrol versions use an eight-speed automatic transmission – compared to the hybrid’s nine-speed auto – but share the hybrid’s part-time four-wheel-drive system.

The petrol Tank 300 quotes the same 2500kg towing capacity and 224mm ground clearance as the hybrid.

However, the petrol carries a 225kg-lower tare weight (2106kg vs 2331kg), and 173kg-lower gross vehicle mass (2552kg vs 2725kg) than the hybrid – which affords it a 52kg-higher payload (446kg vs 394kg).

The 2023 GWM Tank 300 petrol is now available to order.
