Toyota rules out HiLux GR or tougher Rugged X, diesel hybrid more likely

Toyota Australia has all but ruled out a HiLux GR – or an even tougher version of the flagship Rugged X – to compete with the Ford Ranger Raptor, but it is warming customers to the idea of a diesel hybrid future. Toyota Australia vice president, sales and marketing, Sean Hanley, said that while customers might be interested in a high-performance HiLux, there are no plans for such a vehicle.
