2020 Volkswagen Golf cabin snapped

The hotly-anticipated 2020 Mk8 Volkswagen Golf has been snapped during testing, revealing its high-tech new interior design. Set to launch later this year (or early next), the Golf will wade into battle with a variation of the dual-screen infotainment system debuted in the Touareg. There's a fully digital instrument binnacle in front of the driver, flanked by a large touchscreen infotainment system – in the Touareg, the central screen measures 15 inches diagonally.

A US high school teacher is facing legal action – and $US4000 ($AU6000) in costs – after being accused of renting a turbocharged Toyota Supra performance coupe from a car-sharing service and used the vehicle in a racing competition without the owner’s knowledge. The high-school teacher from Indiana – and his team of female mechanic students – were on their way to compete in the 2023 U.S. Mile land-speed trials in Texas last month. The girls and their teacher had built a high-performance Chevrolet S10 pick-up for the ‘Texas Mile’ – a competition which sees vehicles try to achieve the highest possible speed from a standing start within one-mile (1.6km) on a runway. Melbourne City Council has announced plans to allow the public to suggest names for new roads and locations in the city. Names proposed for roads must meet the 1998 Geographic Place Names Act to ensure they are not duplicated or offensive, and support the local community interests – and they can can be submitted by community members, landholders and developers. The draft policy will defer naming proposals back to the community, with a preference for “Aboriginal language names and the names of women who have contributed to Melbourne’s historical development.” According to the Council, this is intended to “correct the imbalance” of naming representation in Melbourne – which in the past 20 years has seen 50 new roads named after men, 23 named after women, and six the use local Aboriginal language. Volkswagen Golf global launch delayed until late February 2020

Jürgen Stackmann, head of the Volkswgen brand, has confirmed to Automotive News Europe the new Golf will have its global launch on the week beginning February 24, 2019. Stackmann also confirmed earlier reports the Mark VIII Golf was delayed due to bugs in its software, with the brand chief nominating the new over-the-air system update system as the primary cause.
