SEMA 2018: Touring the performance car hall

Call me a little biased, but I've been coming to SEMA since 2006 and from that very first year, the biggest highlight for me was always this hall, the aftermarket performance, hot-rod, rat-rod, resto-mod, classic cruiser, pick-up truck, muscle car - call it whatever you like - hall. It's evolved over the years, too, incorporating everything from pick-up trucks, to Japanese cars, electric propulsion and everything else in between.

A high-school teacher in the US could be more than $6000 out of pocket if he is found to have violated the terms of use of a rented Toyota Supra driven to a top speed record. A US high school teacher is facing legal action – and $US4000 ($AU6000) in costs – after being accused of renting a turbocharged Toyota Supra performance coupe from a car-sharing service and used the vehicle in a racing competition without the owner’s knowledge. The high-school teacher from Indiana – and his team of female mechanic students – were on their way to compete in the 2023 U.S. Mile land-speed trials in Texas last month. The girls and their teacher had built a high-performance Chevrolet S10 pick-up for the ‘Texas Mile’ – a competition which sees vehicles try to achieve the highest possible speed from a standing start within one-mile (1.6km) on a runway. 2021 McLaren Artura to debut February 17

The 2021 McLaren Artura will be unveiled on 17 February 2021, an invite sent to some of the brand's Chinese customers has confirmed. An RSVP invite distributed to customers by McLaren's Guangzhou showroom – and subsequently reposted on Spanish forum Cochespias – confirms the next-generation hybrid supercar will make its full debut on February 17, local time.

Melbourne council asks the public to name new roads. What could go wrong?

Have you ever dreamed of living in Streety McStreetface Street, Warnieville? Here’s your chance. Melbourne City Council has announced plans to allow the public to suggest names for new roads and locations in the city. Names proposed for roads must meet the 1998 Geographic Place Names Act to ensure they are not duplicated or offensive, and support the local community interests – and they can can be submitted by community members, landholders and developers. The draft policy will defer naming proposals back to the community, with a preference for “Aboriginal language names and the names of women who have contributed to Melbourne’s historical development.” According to the Council, this is intended to “correct the imbalance” of naming representation in Melbourne – which in the past 20 years has seen 50 new roads named after men, 23 named after women, and six the use local Aboriginal language. Chevrolet Silverado 2500 reaches the end of the line in Australia, only 100 remain

The current generation Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pick-up from the US – powered by a 6.6-litre V8 turbo diesel with an epic output of 332kW/1234Nm and a 5890kg towing capacity – has almost sold out in Australia. Only approximately 100 examples remain in dealer stock nationally after about 1200 were remanufactured in right-hand-drive to factory standards by Holden Special Vehicles in its Melbourne facility from June 2018.

2021 Volkswagen Talagon unveiled in China as brand’s biggest SUV yet

Volkswagen Golf global launch delayed until late February 2020

Jürgen Stackmann, head of the Volkswgen brand, has confirmed to Automotive News Europe the new Golf will have its global launch on the week beginning February 24, 2019. Stackmann also confirmed earlier reports the Mark VIII Golf was delayed due to bugs in its software, with the brand chief nominating the new over-the-air system update system as the primary cause.
