PSA to cut 240 jobs at Vauxhall factory

The PSA Group has announced another round of job cuts, this time at Vauxhall's Ellesmere Port facility in northwest England. As reported by industry journal Automotive News Europe, it's the third round of cuts for the former GM-owned British brand, after it announced 400 axings at the site in October last year, and a further 250 in January – at the time of the first announcement, there were around 1900 people employed at the Ellesmere factory.

A US high school teacher is facing legal action – and $US4000 ($AU6000) in costs – after being accused of renting a turbocharged Toyota Supra performance coupe from a car-sharing service and used the vehicle in a racing competition without the owner’s knowledge. The 2021 McLaren Artura will be unveiled on 17 February 2021, an invite sent to some of the brand's Chinese customers has confirmed. An RSVP invite distributed to customers by McLaren's Guangzhou showroom – and subsequently reposted on Spanish forum Cochespias – confirms the next-generation hybrid supercar will make its full debut on February 17, local time.

Melbourne City Council has announced plans to allow the public to suggest names for new roads and locations in the city. Names proposed for roads must meet the 1998 Geographic Place Names Act to ensure they are not duplicated or offensive, and support the local community interests – and they can can be submitted by community members, landholders and developers. The draft policy will defer naming proposals back to the community, with a preference for “Aboriginal language names and the names of women who have contributed to Melbourne’s historical development.” According to the Council, this is intended to “correct the imbalance” of naming representation in Melbourne – which in the past 20 years has seen 50 new roads named after men, 23 named after women, and six the use local Aboriginal language. The current generation Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pick-up from the US – powered by a 6.6-litre V8 turbo diesel with an epic output of 332kW/1234Nm and a 5890kg towing capacity – has almost sold out in Australia. Volkswagen Golf global launch delayed until late February 2020

Jürgen Stackmann, head of the Volkswgen brand, has confirmed to Automotive News Europe the new Golf will have its global launch on the week beginning February 24, 2019.
