2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross scores five-stars ANCAP rating

The 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has scored five-stars in independent ANCAP testing, joining a long list of new cars to achieve the maximum score.

Set to arrive in Mitsubishi dealerships on December 22, the new Eclipse Cross scored 97 per cent for adult occupant protection, with perfect scores in the pole and side-impact tests.

Child occupant protection was also impressive, with a score of 78 per cent. An 80 per cent score in pedestrian safety is also strong, with marks deducted for poor protection around the base of the windscreen pillars.

“The Eclipse Cross achieved a very high score for Adult Occupant Protection at 97 per cent – the equal second highest score in this area of assessment, and the highest in its class,” James Goodwin, ANCAP CEO, said.

“The design of the front of the vehicle as well as its ability to avoid or minimise the injury risk to a pedestrian through its standard fitment of autonomous emergency braking contributed to its strong score of 80 per cent for Pedestrian Protection.” 

The result applies to all Eclipse Cross variants going forward.

Europe’s Toyota Yaris Cross has received a mid-life update with more power, a revised look and new technology. Plans for the Australian version are yet to be announced. Renault and Nissan production delays due to global cyber attack

Renault and Nissan ‘s Sunderland production facility has been the victim of a global cyber attack, causing costly production delays. The global cyber attack began late last week and has so far affected more than 75,000 systems in 100 countries. The attack hits vulnerable Microsoft Windows machines and encrypts the user’s filesystem, taking it ransom. The user is asked to pay a fee of US$300 to have their computer unlocked. While the attack can easily be prevented by updating the operating system, many automated machines and dumb terminals connected to the internet are being infiltrated. A Renault spokesperson told  Autocar, “Groupe Renault confirms it was impacted by the global cyber attack that began late on Friday May 12. A blurry image found online appears to show an updated Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series. Is Australia’s oldest ‘new’ car about to get another facelift – or is this a retro-inspired model for Japan? The Volkswagen-owned Spanish car maker’s global expansion will be underpinned by the new Terramar, Tavascan and UrbanRebel. Cupra has revealed its new Terramar medium SUV ahead of a planned start to Australian sales for the new five-seater in 2024.
